It is an indicator that exists for any loink with an external file in another application. It also can be found next to an imported Photoshop file. Green indicator means that Captivate is synchronized with the external application, red means that the file has been updated externally and couls be re-synchrnoized if you want.

Re: Background music fade out
Audio in a cpvc-file is not background audio like you can have in a cptx-file. It is always audio linked to the video, to be compared with slide auio in a cptx file.
In a cptx file you can have background audio, slide audio, object audio and audio clips that are played with the command Play Audio. That is not the case for the screen recording Video demo which can be compared with Camtasia. You seem to spend a lot of time to create pure video, instead of interactive tutorials which is the first goal of a Captivate file.

By the way, how many ways is there to update an external file from within Captivate 8?
I believe there was three:
- Clicking the red circle will update
- Right click on the library item will update
- Clicking the update icon in the tab in the library will update....
Did I miss anything?

I just read through this forum and have some suggestions.
This is coming from Captivate. I searched through the cpm.js file and there is a function called openURL() that alerts the variable rtPopupBlkr which is "Please goto your settings and disable popup blocker"
- Thank goodness for bad Adobe spellers.
I haven't had a chance to look through and see how or why that function triggers, but my guess is if you just delete it from the cpm.js file it will just trigger an error and not the actual alert message.

1. Apparently you lose the option to publish as MP4 when you create a .cptx file. I only see options for swf and html output. I simply want to add some short how-to videos to our online help website with text fading in and fading out and corresponding to actions captured by video on the screen. And then some background music to move things along. Using the .cptx file also appears to introduce some problems with syncing the music between slides. I also noticed significant resolution degradation of the video demo when inserting it into the .cptx project. All in all, I didn't have much luck with it.
2. I think I like the sound of your second alternative, adding static objects to the .cpvc file itself. What would that look like? Any tips to adding something like my two start and end PowerPoint slides into the cpvc file as static objects? I am very willing to spend time editing those objects either before or after getting them into the cpvc project if it means containing the cpvc project as a whole.
Again, my sincere thanks for the help.

No I could find no settings that would allow me to change the mouse in Parallels.
It looks like I will either have to edit them as you suggest, or manually capture them using Captivate when the mouse is out of the way.

Open the dropdown list where you see SWF/HTML and you'll see the option Video which is to MP4
For the second questio I repeat : do NOT use imported powerpoint slides. Create the slides in Captivate itself, that way you can stagger objects on the timeline.
You can add images in the video ediror (cpvc), text etc.. This old video was created with Video Demo, and you'll see that type of static objects throughout the video:

Re: Connection Error
My file is not that large and I continue to get this message with my projects. I have had no updates to my laptop or programs and continue to receive this error. The odd part is that it plays perfectly fine in the captivate template within captivate but as soon as I publish the html 5 package into connect and launch as soon as I get to the bookmark whic houses the video I get the same error.
Our company has been doing this for years and we are stumped! Help!

Re: Text Entry Box requires double click to advance.
This could be a focus issue. If your server is an LMS, the content will likely be playing inside a frameset (which may not be visible). So the first click might be necessary to place focus on the page in the frameset and the second is to put the focus on the TEB.
Check to see if clicking elsewhere on the page before clicking the TEB makes any difference.

How interesting. I'm American but I do find that you and Rod misinterpret my questions or miss things I've written, like the note about SCORM Cloud above. Not that I'm not appreciative of the help. I am. I do struggle to explain myself. Most definitely.
I found that it was basic punctuation that was messing me up in IE. I've since discovered the Glossary is not loading in Chrome.

If this is about having a more streamlined user experience, perhaps leaving the popup blocker warning message there is a good idea.
Web browsers are introducing increasingly tightened security measures. Popup blocking is a standard procedure to guard against hackers hijacking your browser session.
If the message does not appear as a warning to the user, they may NOT realise why their course is not working as expected. And when that happens, they will blame the course, not their web browser settings.
