Thank you so much! Yes, changing the quality to optimized got rid of the white line around the characters.
I still have the issue with the background picture on all of my slides. I can cover that up, but I'm sure it's taking up unecessary space. Do you have any suggestions for removing it? The picture is on all of my slides, and is not in the master slides at all.
