I think you will find that your slidelets are the issue. I've had similar problems with slidelets mucking up pausing or making other interactive elements on the same slide not work when expected. I choose not to use slidelets now for this reason. I believe they need some fundamental recoding by Adobe to be useful. Slidelets are a bit like some coworkers you may know. They only work fine when theyre alone. I don't think Adobe envisioned that people would use many slidelets with other interactive objects all on the same slide.
When I need both text and pictures to appear and disappear on screen via a rollover/rollout on a target area, I prefer to use Event Handler widgets to trigger Advanced Actions. It's a little more work than adding slidelets, but it works much more reliably.
