Thank you very much, Michael. I found the solution today and was about to post it here, just in case there was still an old-timer like me who would like the information! ;-)

 

If I use the line _root.waiting = true; by itself, and place it as a SWF Animation on the start of the timeline of the first slide, it doesn't work.

 

If I embedd the code in a onEnterFrame function, it doesn't work. If I extend the animation along the timeline to four seconds ... it works! ;-)

 

It looks like Captivate's SWF needs to sort out a few things before it starts reading a "homemade" SWF animation.
