You cannot import AI images directly. However, when I use Illustrator drawings, I'll import them as smart object in Photoshop and then you can import the PS-layer.
The quality you set in Captivate is not for individual images, but for the slides that are published as bitmap. This means that it doesn't matter if the object is on a master slide or on a regular slide IMO Image may be NSFW.
