If you export a Captivate project to PDF you do not get printable output. You get a multimedia PDF. There's a big difference.
Jim's widget is designed to give your users something they can print out as a document.
Captivate allows you to output a handout document that contains a screenshot of each slide as a Word doc. But getting these to look the way you want can be problematic. And to make them available to your users during the course means you need to provide links to download the handout document. It's not a dynamic solution by any means.
As to which of these two options will give you better print quality, that's for you to decide.
