Branch aware is only meant to make the Quizzing system variables adapting if the user doesn't take all the questions because of branching. That is all. I don't think it will serve in your situation.
You can take the way of the separate file of course, but it could also be done in one file if you take the trouble to create some advanced actions. You didn't tell which version of CP you are using?
Idea is that you have to 'know' first if the trainee needs to see the addendum or not. How did you plan to do that? Asking a question 'Are you an Occupational Therapist?' Can be done with a radiobuttons widget, with only Yes or No.
Based on the answer, you could create an advanced action that has to be triggered On Enter for the first slide of the Addendum (I would have those slides at the end of the file) that checks the answer, and if the answer is No jumps immediately to an End slide for those groups, whereas if the answer is Yes, then just continue to the next slide.
If this is what you want, I warmly recommend not to use a play bar, because the buttons and the progress bar could allow the user, even those that do not need the addendum, to proceed anyway to the addendum slides. That mean that you'll have to add navigation buttons yourself. But with CP6/7 that is not so hard, because shape buttons can be put on the Master slide(s).
