i had tried MS fonts before, but none of them worked. but i realized i was using Verdana-Bold and Arial-Bold. these alternate type faces won't work and cause the font to default to Times New Roman. however, using Verdana-Regular and then bolding it works. this is the only solution that works for me.
1) the font must be installed on the computer viewing it. there's no way around that at this point. even though Captivate is based on Flash, you can't embed fonts like you can in Flash. which is troublesome for me.
2) for OpenType fonts that are part of a font family, the font must be the base font (ie Verdana-Bold and Arial-Bold did not work for me)
so i selected Verdana-Regular and clicked the Bold button. this is the only solution that i found to work on other computers.
i hope this helps anyone coming along with the same problem.
font embedding should definitely be an option in future Captivate releases.
